Overseas landlords background

Overseas Landlords

(NRL Scheme)

If you are abroad but have a property let on rent, or are considering investing in Leeds, you need to know about the Non-Resident Landlord (NRL) scheme.

What Is the NRL Scheme?

The NRL scheme covers landlords who live abroad for over six months. It secures UK tax on rental profit by making estate agents, or in a few instances, tenants deduct 20% tax from rent and remit it to HMRC quarterly.

Important Points for Overseas Landlords

20% Tax Deduction

Should Care4Properties or your tenant receive rent on your behalf, they have to deduct 20% and pay it to HMRC.

Joint Ownership

All landlords are required to register and manage their tax affairs separately.

Military, Crown & Government Employees

Regardless of being overseas for over 6 months, you're still considered under NRL.

NRL1 Form

Complete direct tax correspondence with HMRC on the NRL1 form. This allows you to manage returns personally (not tax exemption).

Whether you have buy-to-let properties for sale in Leeds, or property for let in Leeds, Care4Properties provides full compliance, reassurance, and professional advice for international investors.
