Maintenance tips background

Maintenance Tips

As a renter, maintaining your property regularly keeps your place in excellent condition and also safeguards your investment.

Thermostat adjustment

Heating & Boilers

Boiler Not Operating?

  • Check the fuse box and reset switches.
  • Reset according to your boiler's manual.
  • Check water pressure (it should be 1–2 bars). Use a filling loop to fill up.

Radiators Not Getting Hot?

  • Switch off the heating.
  • Bleed air from the top using the radiator key.
  • Stop when water flows and repressurize the system.

Electricity Problems

  • Total power loss? Check the fuse box and test appliances one at a time.
  • Replacing a fuse? Use a 13A fuse, which can be found at most hardware stores.

Tip:

Electrical inspections are important when you rent a property.

Pipes & Leaks

Leaking or Burst Pipes?

  • Turn off the main stop tap.
  • Contain water with towels/buckets.
  • Thaw frozen pipes using warm (not hot) heat.

Prevention:

Keep heating on low during cold days and regularly check stop taps.

Unblocking Drains

Toilets/Sinks: Plunge or use drain cleaner

Showers/Baths: Use wire or a vinegar + baking soda solution

Caution: Don’t pour grease or flush wipes — they clog the drains.

Sunlight and ventilation for a fresh home

Condensation & Mould

Prevention Tips

  • Open windows or use extractor fans when cooking or showering.
